Alone with God

Two and a half-years ago, I got a call from the Sentinel. The events of September 11 had put the staff into overdrive. Steve Graham, the managing editor, asked if I would come to help with editing—just for six weeks or so, "until things settle down."

I was on a plane the next day. And at first, I was so caught up in the adventure of being in a new city, of meeting new people, and working on a publication that I love, that I was excited about the drastic change in lifestyle. I knew that my friends back home in California would still be there, my 20-something kids, my dad, my siblings, my pets, my home.

But then, the Sentinel asked me to turn this little fillin job into a full-time position. I didn't even hesitate to accept. I truly felt that God had brought me here.
