'The doctors had no hope for me'
WHEN I WAS WORKING on my Master's degree, everything started collapsing around me. It was winter and a very stressful time—I was in the middle of my thesis research and I didn't know what the future would bring.
One day, I woke up without sight in my right eye. In despair and bewilderment I called my oldest sister, and told her what had happened. She's a Christian Scientist, and she immediately offered to help me through prayer. I've always been a spiritual person, so I said, "Yes, please pray for me." I was so afraid that I went to see an eye doctor, but he couldn't explain what had happened. He said it may have been due to a virus and that my sight would probably come back in a month. My sight came back in three days, and I felt strongly it was because of my sister's prayers.
Then, I started experiencing chills, numbness, and tingling throughout my body, and months later, partial paralysis. Very concerned, I dropped out of school for six months and went to visit my brother in New Mexico, who took me to a number of medical specialists. After numerous tests, no one had a definitive diagnosis. Throughout this time, the healing of my eyesight remained with me. "How had it happened? was a lurking question.
