CHURCH LIVES
Full Circle
WHEN I WAS A TEENAGER, I attended a Christian Science Sunday School for a year or two. But it didn't appeal to me. The teacher would always ask me to read passages from the Christian Science Bible Lesson out loud in class, and I felt as though she was picking on me. At home I didn't have my own copies of the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, so it was difficult when Sundays came around and the teacher would ask me to read from them on the spot. My dad had a Bible and a copy of Science and Health, but he never shared them with me and my four younger sisters, or suggested we have books of our own.
I went to a Church of Christ, Scientist, after working the 11 p.m.—7 a.m. shift at the hospital.
