A business turnaround

My wife and I have a small business that develops radar and other electronics systems for the US government. After being in business for about 12 years, we found ourselves in the tenuous position of having a single contract as the source of over 60 percent of our revenue.

Around the time we had almost completed an eight-year development of a new radar tracking system and were preparing to order components for initial production, our customer's program was cancelled. A new program was in place, but the production schedule was years into the future, and with only a fraction of the previous funding. In preparation for the anticipated production, we had just moved our company into a larger building. Needless to say, we found ourselves on an emotional roller coaster with serious concerns about the survival of our company.

As a Christian Scientist, I had learned the importance of gratitude in healing, and in solving difficulties. For several months, I kept a daily log of things that I was grateful for. I also wrote out prayers of gratitude to God for all the ways He had blessed me, our family, and our company. Doing this was a great help in not letting an apparently bad situation blind me to the good that was constantly going on around me.
