River rescue

"PASS THE PUCK! " shouted John. "I'm open!" He sped over the ice, dodging a frozen branch. As the puck smacked his stick, he slammed it between the mittens and hats piled to form a goal. "Score!!!"

As far as John was concerned, life didn't get any better than this. He could only remember two other times the river had frozen over—and never on a Saturday! With the wind in his face and miles of black ice to cover; he felt like he was flying.

"Let's skate down to Rocky Narrows!" yelled his friend Luke, on the other team.
