Exploring

All the explorers sit in a row.
We've been searching the creek down below,
looking for creatures of all shapes and sizes.
Who knew what kind of surprises
we'd find on that late afternoon?

After a while we have collected
lots of things to be inspected:
shiny rocks,
a snail,
and a big green frog,
and even a turtle that lived in a log.

All too soon it is time to leave,
So back through the fields and around the big trees.
Oh, can't we stay five minutes more,
please?

But the grownups say, "No,
it's really time to go."
Say goodbye to aunts and uncles
and cousins
and friends.

We are explorers.
We'll come again.
