moving past the agony

A conversation with a mother who found spiritual comfort in the days after she lost her son.

"There's A Level Of Understanding among those who have lost a child," Kay Olson says. "My heart goes out to parents in that situation."

Kay lives in Raleigh, North Carolina. She spoke about her son Daniel and the awful day, many years ago now, when Daniel disappeared.

Daniel had driven 300 miles to visit his fiancée. The day he was ready to return, he called his mom to say he was having trouble with his truck. He considered staying another night, but said he couldn't delay his trip. He was starting a new job the next day and didn't want to be late. "That was the kind of guy he was," Kay said. Although she encouraged him to test the truck before starting home, he made the decision to make the trip anyway. That was the last time she spoke to him.
