I closed the door on the bad thoughts

One time, my mom accidentally closed the hinge of the door on my arm. It hurt a lot. My mom brought me upstairs, and we started to sing hymns together. This helped me think about God and not so much about my arm.

My mom started telling me a "knock knock" story. She would say, "Knock, knock." And I would say, "Who's there?" Then she would say either a good thought or a bad thought, and I would either "open the door" on good or "close the door" on bad. "Opening the door" meant knowing the thought was true because it was good and from God, so I could think about it and keep it in my thoughts. "Closing the door" meant knowing that the thought wasn't true because it wasn't from God, so I didn't have to let it in my thoughts at all.

Then my mom and I went downstairs to make punch for the guests that were arriving soon. She said that vanilla had to go in the punch. I have a hamster named Vanilla. So, when she said that, I misunderstood her, and I said, "Do you mean Vanilla, my hamster?" We thought it was very funny. So we started to think of all sorts of ways that Vanilla could be served in punch.
