WALT GERBER SPEAKS FROM THE HEART ...
Where the Church is failing young people today, and why the kids are not there, is that we have no idea what their culture is, and we're not able—or willing, maybe—or go down and take the pulse and be where the children are. Try to do their music, and really enter into their lives.
You have to be where they are before you're ever going to reach them. You have to realize that many of them are looking for mentors and parent-types, because they don't have them in their lives. The only way you're going to reach them is through individual care, which they're not really finding in their families.
Healing has long been part of our tradition in Presbyterianism, but people have been cautions and not shown much expectancy in that direction. However, over the last five years, as our faith has grown, emotional, physical, and spiritual healing has become a vital part of our ministry—not in large numbers, but we've seen incredible miracles. I think it's the result of our becoming mature in our relationship with God and in our understanding of His power.
