YOUR LETTERS

Second thoughts

I see that from time to time people write to you with strong thoughts on how or what the magazine is doing. I want to share two comments with you.

First, there are times when I read an article that makes me think, "This isn't right," and I immediately respond, sometimes out loud, that this magazine is God's work for all mankind, and this article is meeting the needs, speaking with love, and reaching those who are blessed by its message. There have been a few times when week later I see that someone has written a thank-you for the article that challenged me, and I am so grateful.

Second, thanks for keeping "abreast of the times," as Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of the magazine, required. This inspires me as I work within my church and everywhere.

Source of solutions

I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for sending me your highly appreciated magazine. It has become for me a reliable and necessary source to find many solutions to the problems of my daily life. The wide variety of subjects makes everyone read it with so much interest. I am one of the numerous people around the world whose life has become more valuable and fruitful thanks to the Sentinel.

Many of my friends who read English have been very struck at first sight when I hand them your magazine and they start to read it. They say that this is the No. One magazine in the world for giving solutions to man's problems from a religious standpoint. That is totally true.

More variety, please

I did not intend to make the following comment to you until I heard other readers raise the same issue. My comment is about focus issues.

I would find it more helpful if each Sentinel had more diversity, and for the focus articles to be spread around in several issues. Upon receiving a new issue, I sometimes find myself rejecting it. Another individual told me that some weeks she looks at the focus of the magazine, sets it aside, and sighs, realizing she will have to wait a whole week for the next issue to arrive. I eventually read each and every Sentinel. My friend says she does, too. I would still like to see a change regarding "focus."

Don't hide your light!

I have been enjoying so many of the latest issues as they pertain to many peoples' lives today. Thank you!

About a month ago I started watching the Oprah Winfrey show which comes on about 12:30 a.m. in my area, the only time I get to relax and watch some TV. It suddenly struck me how much her programs were covering the same subjects as the Sentinel.

Today I decided to write a letter to Oprah and send her six copies of the Sentinels dealing with race, marriage, abuse, guilt, and hunger, as well as the special issue of The Herald of Christian Science that was about women. I'm also sending her some pages of the current fulltext Quarterly from this week's lesson on God. We just cannot hide what we have under the bushel anymore!
