'When you pass through the waters...'

"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you." These words from the Bible (Isa. 43:2) would likely resonate with anyone who has ever faced dire circumstances. They speak of a divine presence—a force for good—always available to us.

What about the times when we are faced with trials and feel that it is too late to find protection? What if we feel we have already been swept away by tumultuous currents? Already been burned by fire?
