Prayer at home, prayer away from home

After nine years in our lovely apartment, we had to look for a new place to live because our landlord was going to tear down our building. The apartments we looked at were expensive and not suitable for my wife and me. What we could afford was run down and often in bad neighborhoods.

We asked a Christian Science practitioner to pray with us—to help us get a better understanding of what home really means. We knew that a better understanding of Truth results in changes for the better. She pointed out that Jesus said, "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you" (John 14:2). She also told us that the home we were looking for was in our consciousness and not in a place.

As we prayed, we began to understand what the practitioner meant when she said that our home was in consciousness, not in a building. Our home consisted of qualities of God, such as peace, joy, and comfort. These qualities were already established by God and did not have a price tag. We were not limited people separated from God. Instead we were the unlimited expressions of God.
