An answer he couldn't have planned
During my early twenties, I literally was a sentinel—as a military policeman (MP) in the United States Army. As a young Christian Scientist, I was already trained to keep guard over my thinking and to watch that what I thought about was true to the spiritual life we have from God and which was demonstrated by Jesus.
On the infantry training base where I was stationed, often as many as 50,000 trainees were being prepared for combat in Korea. Officers and noncommissioned officers were training them every day. The MPs on the base took part in this training by enforcing rules of conduct, proper wearing of the uniform, and curfew regulations, and by verifying off-base passes and so forth.
