Challenging choices
Are your kids managing the media culture?
When our younger daughter, Alissa, was in preschool, one of her favorite lines was "I'm doing myself!" My wife stitched those words into a quilt square one year, to remind us all of her amazing originality.
Alissa's attitude looked at times like childish stubbornness, but she has grown. She's now in high school, and we're seeing something deeper and more genuine. We're seeing more of the individuality that God gave her.
Her tastes in music, movies, and cyber-sites are wide and sometimes very interesting. Often, they've seemed to run counter to her friends' preferences and expectations. This isn't to suggest that she has always made the best choices. Some of the things she and her sister have found on TV have made us lunge for the remote control.
