YOUR LETTERS

It is simply astonishing how appropriate and timely the September 10 issue is. Beginning with the cover and the Welcome by John Selover, to the last paragraph of Channing Walker's article, this issue is full of comforting and inspirational ideas that help us face so specifically the challenges of this week. Thank you for being so receptive to divine guidance when planning each issue.

Most people, including authorities, seem to look for an answer to the question "Who did it?" However, a better question would be "What did it?" It is not diffcult to find the answer to this last question. It was ignorance, hate, desire of revenge. It was the illusion that something good could come from an evil act. These are the enemies of Americans and of all humanity. We cannot overcome these enemies with the very same hate and desire of revenge. We cannot give in to the illusion that something good can come from an act of retaliation.

What Mary Baker Eddy wrote about intemperance can well be applied to this case: "Christian Science lays the axe at the root of the tree. Its antidote for all ills is God, the perfect Mind, which corrects mortal thought, whence cometh all evil. God can and does destroy the thought that leads to moral or physical death" (Miscellaneous Writings, p.37).
