Arthritis healed

During World War II, our family lived in Newcastle, England, and there were air raids almost every night. I was about 10-14 years old at the time. There was a munitions factory and a shipyard near our home. Anti-aircraft guns were set up in the four corners of the park just across the road. When those guns started firing, the repercussions would actually move our house. The noise was deafening. Even so, I knew that God was watching over me. I would pray every night, "Thank you, Father, for a lovely day."

Before the war, my older sister had been introduced to Christian Science, and she asked Mum and Dad if I could go to Sunday School with her. We went for two or three years until the war came, and what I gained from Sunday School stood me in good stead through those war years. I developed a great love for God at that time.

But there was a shadow on my childhood. I felt at times that I was bereft, alone. I longed to be a twin. It was a constant ache. When I was 14, I was talking with my sister and my mother, and I told them about this longing. I'd always had a feeling there was more to my life than what had been revealed to me.
