Our secret

We share a secret sanctuary
with a shepherd-prophet-king.
He found it on
an ancient hillside
with flocks of sheep
in caring view,
and poetic prayer on his lips.

I came upon
this impregnable safehouse
on a noisy city street
amidst the earnest, rushing masses,
and a gentle, guiding prayer in my ears.

This secret place,
most high, most holy,
was where I was and where I am,
stronger than steel skyscrapers
and soft as feathered wings.

And so, we share a secret,
this inspired shepherd-psalmist and I:
spiritual Love,
the safety of Truth and our sure home —
found in prayer,
praised in song.

And I see that the city
is just another hillside.
And I am just another poet,
sheltered in divine Love,
just fitting its embrace
as gentle shepherd David did.

This nest,
our perfect hiding place,
is secret
from a troubled world but always known to Love,
prepared for all His children—
for David, you, and me.

The constant lamp of tender grace
brightens Love's open door
so all may find
the secret cove,
our heavenly refuge,

our home.
