Stand up for what's true about you

Truth is irreversible ," my husband said firmly as he hung up the phone. He had just received the disappointing news that the job offered to him that very morning was no longer available to him. A policy change, announced just after he'd received the offer, had made any hiring impossible.

My husband had been out of work for the better part of that year, so he urgently needed employment. Early on during this period, however, we had determined to approach this challenge as an opportunity to learn more about our relation to God, rather than to allow discouragement to overwhelm us. We had already seen countless proofs of His provision for us, and we wanted so much to feel more of our Father-Mother's tender, loving care.

For months we had been learning, step by step, to trust this promise from Psalms: "The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me" (138:8). Then came the unexpected employment offer mentioned above. An answer to prayer, the job could not have been more ideal. It suited my husband's education, qualifications, and professional preferences perfectly. And it promised to benefit both employer and employee. Having the offer rescinded at the last moment could have made us downhearted—but it didn't.
