Flu healed; hearing restored

I am so grateful to God. Through the study of the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, I have been learning more of the nature of God and of myself as His image and likeness. I have had healings of all kinds—of anemia and of the propensity to get the flu every time it came to town; the provision of supply, companionship, home; safety in storms and on the freeways; and the following two examples of physical healing.

I was quickly healed of flu-like symptoms that were trying to pull me down. I was to serve as librarian in our local Christian Science Reading Room. But as soon as I arrived there I began to feel ill. Since it was early and no one else was there, I just sat down and started reminding myself of some of the truths of God and His children. I remembered this statement: "The God-principle is omnipresent and omnipotent" (Science and Health, p. 473), and I knew that God is good and does not send sickness. After praying along these lines for a little while, I felt well again and rejoiced to serve God.

Quite a few years ago, my hearing began to fade. My ears would stop up from time to time, and sometimes I could not hear at all. I removed wax, but no improvement would be evident. People said that hearing loss was expected at my age and that a hearing aid would help. But I didn't want to settle for temporary help and wanted very much to know myself as God knows me—perfect now. I began to study all I could find about ears and hearing in the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings. Science and Health has this definition of ears: "Not organs of the so-called corporeal senses, but spiritual understanding" (p. 585). I needed to clarify my spiritual understanding and to replace a mortal sense of hearing with the spiritual and true sense.
