Are you listening?
The following is based on the author's entry in a "Laws of Life" essay contest during her sophomore year in high school.
Too often people pass by a flower on the sidewalk or in their own front yards without taking notice of the true beauty it possesses. It would be easy to let the soft, sweet scent of a rose dance around you, delicate and quiet. However, if you're in a rush or letting negative thoughts clutter your mind, you may pass right by that sweet rose without ever experiencing the inspiration you can get from it. Feeling the great sense of peace that comes with knowing each petal has unfolded or from appreciating the flower's grace, needs to fill a bigger space in our lives. Let's not take for granted all the beauty that surrounds us.
God created the heavenly universe full of spiritual, perfect beings that cannot be touched or tainted by anything impure or harmful. Spiritual inspiration is omnipresent, but are we listening to its angel messages? Understand that the true happiness, health, love, and wholeness that we are all longing for is right at hand. God supplies us with all we need; therefore, we can lack nothing.
If we're feeling alone or empty, this may mean that we're not accepting what's already with us. It's just like that flower—we can pass it up so easily, or we can recognize the beauty it expresses. If we don't see the beauty, that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. It just shows that we didn't look for it, or hear its song.
We're never really lost or alone. It just seems that way until we discover that we are right where we always have been—in God's love. God is always guiding us; we just need to listen and follow His direction. Don't be discouraged or worried. Patiently let God carry out His plan for you. Remember that the Bible says, "Let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing" (James 1:4). Science and Health expands on this idea: "Wait patiently for divine Love to move upon the waters of mortal mind, and form the perfect concept" (p. 454). Let's rejoice that our lives are unfolding in perfection like spring flowers in bloom.
Take more time to listen for and appreciate the wonderful, uplifting glories of life. Shh ... be still, and listen.
