Brief prayer heals much

One Sunday afternoon I put a roast in the oven for dinner. Walking to the living–room, I felt dizzy.

I sat down, thinking, "Now this dizziness will pass." But when I stood up to walk, there was no change. Then came thoughts of possible causes for the dizziness.

But then it was as if God spoke to me: "What are you doing? How could you look for a cause other than Me? All week you've studied a Bible Lesson called 'God the Only Cause and Creator.' You heard it read in church this morning."

I accepted this with gratitude. Stretching out on the couch with a copy of The Christian Science Journal in my hand—intending to read it—I first closed my eyes for a moment and turned humbly and completely to God. Acknowledging Him as "the Only Cause and Creator," I could see that He never created dizziness, because all that He created is "very good," as the Bible says. These facts brought peace, and I fell asleep.

When neighborhood church bells wakened me, I leaped up and hurried to the kitchen to finish preparing dinner.

Later, I remembered the dizziness and realized that it was gone. I decided to go to bed early. And as I washed my face, I was amazed to see only a small mark on my eyelid where a noticeable growth had been. Then I saw my thumb—free from a wart that had been there for two years. To me this was proof of the healing power of God. That one brief prayer had freed me from three physical problems. And I felt so refreshed that instead of going to bed early, I stayed up for several hours, happily sewing and mending.

I remembered the dizziness and realized that it was gone.

Furthermore, healing has continued. On the day I first began to write this report of healing, I noticed that the mark that had remained on my eyelid was gone. The eyelid is clean. Surely this is more evidence that prayer heals.

How grateful I am for Christian Science!
