"Christ is the only solid guide we can depend upon to direct us appropriately."
I enjoyed the article "What would Jesus do?" (August 2). I have watched with interest the renewed respect for Christ Jesus, and I have been particularly impressed by young people wearing bracelets with the initials WWJD.
Years ago as a child in Christian Science Sunday School I learned to consider what Jesus would do, think, say, and how he would act under various circumstances, and to model my behavior after his. This was particularly helpful to me as a teenager with so many critical choices to make. Since that is a time when peer pressure increases and parental control decreases, it was wonderful to have a solid understanding of Christ Jesus. It certainly supported me in my decision-making.
Knowing about Jesus—who he was and what he did—is essential to getting anything out of wearing a WWJD bracelet. Perhaps those unfamiliar with Jesus will be encouraged to learn more about him when they see their peers with these bracelets or necklaces. Certainly, Christ is the only solid guide we can depend upon to direct us appropriately. I find I ask myself today more than ever before, "What would Jesus do?"
