Health that cannot age

Veterinarian's bleak verdict overturned

Earlier this year I bought a house in a different city and moved into it with my two children and three cats. We were grateful to have a home with so much natural landscape around it, and we looked forward to seeing the wild critters at the stream or in the woods out back. In fact, the very first week, I had to find a way to keep raccoons from tipping over the trash cans at night. The raccoons around here are said to be carriers of rabies, however, and I was told that there is a law requiring that pets be vaccinated against it.

As a Christian Scientist, when confronting health issues I consult with God, through prayer, for a better understanding of His protection, supply, and loving care for each of His ideas. A study of the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, has consistently brought healing to my life. The teachings of Christ Jesus show us so much about the spiritual nature of God and man, and Mrs. Eddy scientifically documents this and the healing and protection from illness that come as we learn more about God.

I certainly wanted to obey the law, however, and I made an appointment with a local veterinarian to have the cats vaccinated. But there was actually more in my thought than just obeying the law. One of the cats has been with me for a very long time, even longer than my children. I had begun to think of him as a "senior citizen" and wanted to get a medical opinion about what to expect for a cat this old and how to provide the right care.
