Ready, safe, go!

Accident averted through prayer

Brakes screeched and vehicles careened in several directions. A camper was sprawled sideways across several lanes of the bridge. A crash appeared inevitable. But a few minutes earlier, I had decided it would be a good time to pray while driving. What about? About Life. For several minutes I thought about God as Life—Life unchanging, Life ever harmonious, Life deathless, Life ever present. I also thought about the real identity of each of us as God's child, the eternal expression of divine Life.

Then as we were crossing a bridge, a car cut sharply in front of a large camper. As I saw it sprawled across several lanes, the driver managed to straighten out and come to a stop. The vehicle that had cut in front of the camper came to rest against the median barrier, and the people in it got out and walked around, apparently unhurt. All the other cars nearby, including ours, were able to stop safely on the bridge. I was extraordinarily grateful and humbled that I had been praying about Life harmonious and eternal minutes before. All of us were protected by our heavenly Father-Mother, divine Love.
