In a survey of eight hundred Americans by Technometrica Institute of Policy and Politics (TIPP) for The Christian Science Monitor, adults were asked what single factor would help to alleviate the moral and ethical problems the United States is facing.

"CLEAN, CRSIP HONESTY may cost you something right now. But in a strictly pragmatic sense, it releases you and me from the horrendous penalties that come when our shading of the truth, our dissembling, and our blatant lies catch up with us and people no longer trust us. Dishonesty functions not only in public life but also so subtly in our own interpersonal relations in business [and family] . . . . God wants you and me to be stripped of our phoniness. He wants ypu and me to be authentic people of integrity whose word can be trusted."
