ASSAULT AVERTED

Late one afternoon some time ago, I was walking along a quiet street leading to a busy intersection.

As I walked, I was filled with thankfulness that Christ Jesus had come to the world so long ago and yet his message was still vibrant to me that day two thousand years later. At that moment I deeply felt the influence of his life, his all encompassing love—the presence of Christ, Truth. My consciousness was filled with gratitude.

Then I became aware that two men, one of whom was at least six feet tall, had rushed at me from a side alley (presumably in a purse snatching attempt). I stopped in my tracks and looked at them, puzzled. I felt no fear. Then, one of them suddenly fled back up the alley. The tall man followed on my heels as I continued to walk toward the intersection. When the traffic light changed, I proceeded across the street. On reaching the curb, he turned and went quickly in the direction of his partner.
