"Why not tithe 10% of each day by dedicating at least two and a half hours to prayer?"

The item of interest in the May 25 issue concerning tithing to churches brought to mind an idea shared by a Christian Science practitioner during an informal talk: if God deals in the currency of ideas, why not tithe 10% of each day by dedicating at least two and a half hours to prayer? Broken down into sections throughout the day, this is quite doable. What an activity church would become, reaping the riches of understanding and constancy in a world so in need of both.

The May 25 Sentinel's story of Moses with its sidebar of the Ten Commandments in Hebrew was especially good. While employed for a Jewish-sponsored human rights organization, I became acquainted with the Hebrew language and learned its aleph, bet, gimel, and so on. It is a very expressive language. For instance, the word for Samuel in Hebrew is Shmuel, which comes from the Hebrew root word Shema, "to hear." Thus, Samuel heard the voice of the Lord.
