HEALING OF FEVER
I like to swim a lot, but unfortunately I usually don't enjoy swim meets. At a recent swim meet, I started to feel sick. This sick feeling became worse as the day went on, but I continued to swim my events. After swimming a 50-yard freestyle, which is an all-out sprint, I discovered I had a poor time, a headache, and a fever. As a result of these symptoms, I told my coach I didn't feel like swimming anymore and went home.
My mom, who isn't a Christian Scientist, suggested I use medicine and go to a doctor. I declined and told her that instead I wanted to use Christian Science. She got me to promise that I would go to the doctor if I wasn't healed a week before my next swim meet.
I then got to work on healing this difficulty. First, I thought it was important not to accept my mom's view of the situation. I was grateful for her concern, and I realized I shouldn't feel frustrated with her perspective because she was only displaying love. But I affirmed the truth I had learned in Sunday School that I am God's perfect child and that this sickness was only a misconception about God's child and about the health that God maintains for His child. I spent almost the whole day affirming these truths. A week before the "B Champs" swim meet, I felt a lot better. My mom agreed that I didn't need to be seen by the doctor, and I continued to pray.
