The day that God seemed far away

One morning I felt that nothing was going right and that God had abandoned me. I tried to pray, but nothing seemed to help. I decided that I'd do some laundry, just so that the day wouldn't be a total loss. As I was doing this, I became conscious of my hands folding each towel into a neat square and placing it on the even stack of folded towels.

It dawned on me that methodical order was taking place, even though minutes earlier I'd felt things were in disarray. What this made me realize is that God is always governing His creation, despite my feelings to the contrary! Right where it seemed havoc was ruling, heaven was reigning.

This experience gave me insight into a favorite Bible passage: "Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me" (Ps. 139:7-10).
