Christian Science conquers pain

As a youngster I was often in great pain. When necessary, a Christian Science practitioner would be called to give treatment. Each time the pain would quickly go. But eventually it would return. I became fearful that I would never understand God sufficiently to cure the condition completely.

But that all changed. One day the pain was again intense. This time, however, I opened Science and Health at the beginning of the chapter "Christian Science Practice" (see pp. 362–364). Here Mary Baker Eddy speaks of the Bible story about the woman who went to Christ Jesus, washed his feet, dried them with her long hair, and anointed them with costly ointment. I read the first three pages of this chapter over and over. Three days later I telephoned a Christian Science practitioner for treatment.

The practitioner's assurance that God was expressing Himself through me actually made me laugh to myself. It was too ridiculous to think of God knowing or making pain! I could see that God made all, and it was good. Good was all He knew—not pain. I was completely healed and the condition never returned.
