Q A

Q Why are the Christian Science Wednesday testimony meetings so different from the Sunday services?

A Each service fills a particular role. The Sunday service primarily consists of the reading aloud of the Bible Lesson (found in the Christian Science Quarterly). This Lesson-Sermon consists of passages from the Bible and correlative citations from Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy. Anyone can study the Bible Lesson in advance of the service to gain a deeper understanding of its message.

The Wednesday testimony meeting consists of readings from the Bible and Science and Health, chosen by the Reader of the local church. Part of that service is open to sharing experiences, testimonies of healing, or remarks on Christian Science from anyone in attendance. Mrs. Eddy writes, "Testimony in regard to the healing of the sick is highly important. More than a mere rehearsal of blessings, it scales the pinnacle of praise and illustrates the demonstration of Christ, 'who healeth all thy diseases' (Psalm 103:3)" (Manual of The Mother Church, Art. VIII, Sect. 24).
