Centennial of The Christian Science Publishing Society

Carved into the stone of the Christian Science Publishing House are these words from Psalm 68:

The Lord gave the word: great was the company of those that published it.

Following her discovery of Christian Science and her writing of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy completed, step by step, the design necessary to spread universally the word of God and the good news of His healing Christ.

An essential part of that design is The Christian Science Publishing Society. Through a deed of trust, Mrs. Eddy established the Society in 1898 "...for the purpose of more effectually promoting and extending the religion of Christian Science as taught by me."

Over the years, millions of comforting, uplifting, and healing words have been published and broadcast by the Society Mrs. Eddy founded. The fruits of this service, this publishing of the Word, rest in the healed, restored, and regenerated lives of men, women, and children—reaching to the far corners of the earth. A portion of this is recorded in the volumes of The Christian Science Journal, the Christian Science Sentinel, and The Herald of Christian Science, and in the columns, microfiche, and electronic files of The Christian Science Monitor. Also, through the Christian Science Quarterly—Bible Lessons, the pastor of this Church has preached and provided daily inspiration and spiritual education.

These publications, which Mrs. Eddy established and entrusted to the Publishing Society, remain dedicated to the accomplishment of her purpose.

It is a good beginning ... this first hundred years. There is more publishing to be done—so very many hearts reaching out—so much fresh spiritual response asked of us. We gratefully acknowledge the record of accomplishment and look forward, with expectation and a sense of wonder, to what remains to be done through the practical publishing design given to the world by Mary Baker Eddy.
