Daughter's injury and fear healed

In 1994, I moved to Florida as a single parent with my daughter, who had just turned two. I was to have a full-time job, and my daughter would be in day care all day. I had really enjoyed being at home with her, so I was not particularly happy about this, but there seemed to be no alternative.

My first day of work, I was just getting into my car after dropping my daughter off at day care when the director came running over to me. My daughter had fallen off a swing onto her face. When I went to see exactly what the situation was, the injuries to her mouth and teeth appeared serious. I attempted to quiet my thought, as well as to comfort my daughter, who was crying uncontrollably. Because the incident had occurred on school property, I agreed to the director's request that I take my daughter to see a dentist who specialized in treating children.

Before we set off for the dentist, I was able to spend some quiet time in prayer. I knew that God loved each and every one of His children and would never allow one of them to fall from His care. He tenderly guides, guards, protects, and cherishes His children at all times. I could not allow myself to feel any resentment toward the day-care personnel, because then I would be believing that God's man can be careless or irresponsible, and I knew that was not true. It came to me to study the definition of man from Science and Health (see p. 591). It was clear to me that the child of God is not a physical being, subject to illness or accident, but a spiritual idea, whole and perfect. I felt somewhat comforted after praying this way.
