COMMUNITY WATCH
Love thy neighbor
(even if he is picketing your neighborhood)
"Soon I was free from anger and felt impelled to go outside and talk with the protesters."
One Saturday Morning I woke to the sound of bullhorns outside my house. A group of demonstrators was picketing a public official who lived nearby. They were marching and chanting, "No justice, no peace! No justice, no peace!" There were a number of policemen present to keep order. It was a volatile situation.
My first reaction was anger. What were they doing, making a disturbance in my neighborhood? Why did they have to cause so much trouble? I went outside and found many neighbors who felt the same way. The police officers were unhappy with the demonstrators, too.
