Years ago, during a high-school soccer game, I collided with another player and severely injured my foot. The coach would not let me practice or play in games until I had an X-ray. My father took me to the emergency room of a local hospital, and a doctor confirmed that there was a fractured bone in my foot. He wanted me to wear a cast, which would have meant no soccer for the rest of my senior year. My father thanked the doctor, telling him we would consider his advice.
As we were walking to the car (with me on crutches), my father said, "You have two choices. You can do what the doctor said, or we can heal this through prayer." It didn't take me long to choose.
At home I began to study the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. I saw that I needed to lean on God for strength, mobility, and power. I had to trust that, being part of His creation, I was intact, whole, unbroken. Mary Baker Eddy writes, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings" (Science and Health, p. vii). I didn't have to wait six weeks to see the blessings of God manifested. That very day I could be a witness to His healing power. And I was!
