In my early teens, after my mother passed on, there was a question as to where I would make my home. During the same time what looked like mumps developed.
I'd had many healings during my childhood, and I had come to trust and value the Bible and Science and Health. I did ask for help from a Christian Science practitioner. As he prayed for me, he urged me to listen to my Father-Mother, God. Those around me had many opinions as to what I should do, and I had always been easily influenced by others, so my prayers took the form of wanting to be guided by God. Because of what I was learning about God's care and shepherding, I didn't let fear of contradicting others' desires or of not fulfilling others' expectations influence my actions or thoughts. Each day my study and prayer brought more assurance of God's care for all, and this helped to release me from a false sense of responsibility.
