True mother love
I Caught sight of my grown-up son mowing the lawn in response to a request. He wasn't home much anymore and soon would be going far away again for quite some time. I was filled with a deep love for this young man. You might call it the best of mother love.
But I've learned to see from a spiritual perspective even the best in human life. As I stood there thinking about him, I pondered the God-given qualities he so clearly expressed right then. There was a strong sense of integrity, of goodness, of decency. Much intelligence was expressed, much innocence, an expectancy of good. I was aware of his true nature as God's child.
Then, as quickly as the feeling of mother love had come and was cherished, another thought came to me: "God loves him more than you do." I caught then a tiny glimpse of what the love of divine Love means. It is so much more than even the purest of human affection. It is a vision of perfection. The lines from a hymn came to my thought: "So God forever sees His child/Revealed in radiant light" (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 15). God cannot see His child in trouble, in distress, in pain, or separated from any good, because God's child is never a victim of these things. God beholds man only as that radiant image of Love.
