Through the practice of Christian Science my children and I...
Through the practice of Christian Science my children and I have been healed of colds, recurring ear infections, pneumonia, abdominal troubles, chickenpox, a crushed finger, and a severe burn.
When I was about five months pregnant with my first child, and still relatively new to Christian Science, I was informed by an obstetrician that there were signs of a growth linked with cancer of the cervix. I was asked to undergo a medical test and told that if surgery was needed it could be performed after the birth. The thought of surgery terrified me. I decided to rely on prayer. And I asked my mother to pray with me. She referred me to passages in the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy and told me that God created everyone perfect, me included, and that an abnormal growth was no part of God's perfect creation.
As I read the first chapter of Genesis with renewed interest, I glimpsed what it means for man to be the image and likeness of God. I also found this statement helpful in Science and Health: "Man, governed by his Maker, having no other Mind,—planted on the Evangelist's statement that 'all things were made by Him [the Word of God]; and without Him was not anything made that was made,'—can triumph over sin, sickness, and death" (pp. 231–232). I understood then that this growth was no part of me, and I could triumph over it.
