FOR YOUNG ADULTS
Shining with the "stars"
While we may sometimes dream of what it could be like to be big stars on television, in the movies, or in music, can we really assume that being rich and famous is the only way to happiness and satisfaction?
Our heroes and role models differ from one person to the next. They may be rock stars or sports champions. The problem of making a hero of a particular person, though, is that a specific talent or skill is often confused with overall greatness. For it is not only important to have talent; it is how it is used that really matters.
The truly great achievements of mankind remain to inspire us forever. Christ Jesus is, for Christians, the greatest inspiration; but he was in his day a major disappointment to some people who had expected the Messiah to be a conquering hero who would lead the expected the Messiah to be a conquering hero who would lead the Jewish nation from political oppression. In fact, the impact of Jesus' career has been more far-reaching than anyone at that time probably could have imagined. He presented to all mankind and for all ages the necessity of triumph over the world, that is, over materialism and evil.
