I have been applying Christian Science—God's law of harmony...
I have been applying Christian Science—God's law of harmony—for nearly fifty years, and am profoundly grateful that Mrs. Eddy shared her discovery with the world. It's a privilege to be able to state with conviction that Christian Science meets every need.
While vacationing in a southern state a few years ago, I was bitten by an insect as I slept. I thought little about it until a few days later when an ugly sore appeared on my forehead. I prayed and had treatment from a Christian Science practitioner. I knew that God's man has no blemishes, because he is a spiritual idea that can reflect only the perfect qualities bestowed on man by God. When the sore kept getting larger, the word invasion came to thought. I reasoned that my true being could not be invaded, that God was in control. Within a few days, the skin was smooth; there was no evidence of the discord.
More recently, as I was reading a book, I noticed a blotch that followed my gaze as I scanned the pages. This condition continued for several days. I prayed, desiring to see its falsity. And I asked God to show me how to improve my thinking about myself. A portion of the explanation of eyes in Science and Health came to thought: "Spiritual discernment" (p. 586). I then recalled a minor operation I had had on one eye many years previously after a hot cinder from a steam locomotive had burned the eye. I denied that I, as God's reflection, had ever experienced an accident or its aftermath, recognizing that spiritual discernment enabled me to see only perfection. I reasoned that since the all-knowing Mind had shown me that the trouble had no actual cause, there could be no lingering effect. This was true no matter how many years had passed since the incident. The blotch faded away.
