While reflecting on the many healings of the past, I never cease...

While reflecting on the many healings of the past, I never cease to be grateful for the blessings received after a car accident in the winter of 1939.

My sister, parents, and I were driving to visit another sister. A car coming from the opposite direction appeared over the crest of a hill, in our lane, passing another car. Our car over-turned, throwing me out the back door. The car landed on top of me on the frozen ground. My sister and I were taken to the hospital. As my sister entered the hospital, she asked how she could get in touch with a Christian Science practitioner. The ambulance driver got a telephone book, and my sister called a practitioner. The practitioner assured her that she could deny anything unlike good and know that I was God's perfect child.

When my parents arrived, my sister informed them of the call. When the doctor told them of the injuries and added that I probably would not survive, my mother and sister said nothing. They were silently praying. The practitioner also came to be with us. My mother asked the doctor to make me as comfortable as possible without any medication or bandages. While I was in the hospital, my family and the practitioner took turns staying with me. After three days, as I regained consciousness I was repeating "the scientific statement of being" (see Science and Health, p. 468) with the practitioner.
