One day about three years ago, when I was crossing a street...
One day about three years ago, when I was crossing a street, I did not notice that the light had changed and that traffic had started to move. A speeding motorcycle hit me and I was thrown into the air. I landed on my feet and noticed that the driver was lying on the ground. Instead of worrying about myself, I went over to help the motorcycle driver. This was very important to my own healing. I did not complain, or blame him, but tried to help him get up. In so doing, I forgot myself. I really wanted to help him.
Soon the crowd dispersed, the driver went on his way, and I walked the rest of the way to my office. A few minutes after I arrived, I began to feel a growing pain in the side of my body where I had been hit. When I went to the bathroom, I realized I had suffered internal injuries, for I eliminated a great deal of blood. I became alarmed, fearing that something might have happened to one of my kidneys.
Thanks to my study of Christian Science, however, I knew that I must immediately calm my panic, because fear indicates a lack of trust. Fear assumes that God is not infinite, omnipresent, and omniscient. To overcome this intense fear I began to pray.
