In the United States on Saturday, June 1, the Children's Defense Fund will hold the first "Stand for Children" day. Thousands of parents, grandparents, clergy, police, nurses, doctors, and other individuals who care for and about children are expected to assemble at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. Devoting this day to children is meant to highlight the plight of youngsters, especially those affected by abuse, neglect, and violence.
Children throughout the world are important and worthy of our prayers. Such prayers counter the image of youngsters as victims and reveal the intelligent innocence that is never helpless. Children have powerful spiritual resources, and they can learn how to use them to heal themselves and others.
