Morning prayer—a powerful defense

I never considered myself much of a morning person. In fact, there was a time when 9 a.m. was the crack of dawn for me! Sleeping late just seemed like the thing to do when there was no pressing business in the morning. I felt locked into a pattern of going to bed late and sleeping late.

Although there were no benefits to this pattern, I was perfectly content with it. I never considered another way of thinking until I started studying Christian Science. As I became familiar with the Bible and the textbook of Christian Science, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, I began naturally getting up much earlier than usual because I was so inspired by what I was learning.

Through this "awakening" I came to see that I was not, even a bit, what the material senses claimed I was. I was learning that the bathroom mirror wasn't capable of showing me who I really was—the spiritual reflection of Soul, God, expressing only Godlike qualities. I saw that I was the divine Mind's perfect idea, always held in the arms of divine Love and never subject to sin, sickness, or death. This knowledge was strengthening me as no amount of sleep ever could.
