... and then there was the rainbow
Sometimes we forget what followed the flood. After the careful building of the ark, after packing his family and livestock into it according to God's precise instructions, after the tumultuous rainfall and inrush of waters from the quaking depths, after waiting months and months for the waters to dry up—finally, Noah, with his family and the animals, stepped out of the ark.
What met them was a wasteland. They'd have to start their lives all over again, building up from the bare and sodden land.
Yet Noah didn't despair. Instead, his first thought was of God. And his first act was to build an altar and offer a sacrifice of "sweet savour" to the creator, who had delivered him and his family (Gen. 8:21).
