What a blessing to have had Christian Science to rely on for every need throughout my life!

When I was expecting the birth of our second child, there were some sudden alarming symptoms, including bleeding, which indicated the possibility of a miscarriage. Previous to this pregnancy, I had delivered a stillborn baby, and now I was very fearful. I'd been meeting regularly with a Christian Science practitioner, who was praying with me regarding the anticipated birth; but she was out of town at the time these symptoms occurred. The situation seemed urgent, so I called upon another experienced Christian Scientist, who agreed to pray with me in this particular time of need. He immediately repeated this sentence that Mrs. Eddy wrote: "No evidence before the material senses can close my eyes to the scientific proof that God, good, is supreme" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 277). As I held my thinking to that idea, and the impossibility that there ever could be anything outside of God, I became more comfortable, and the bleeding stopped.

The original practitioner and I subsequently resumed our prayer together. We accepted as a promise the passage from Isaiah "Shall I bring to the birth, and not cause to bring forth? saith the Lord: shall I cause to bring forth, and shut the womb? saith thy God" (66:9). I spent much of my time in quiet prayer and study, and found that this was a good time to commune with God instead of doing a lot of talking with others about what was going on.
