The real joy of life
One day I was enjoying a walk around the edge of one of the endless cornfields that surround the area where I live. Soon the way became impassable because of the thick growth of briars, weeds, and thorns, so I moved inside the field and walked between two rows of corn.
Now, this corn was tall, well over my head, and the rows had grown together so that there was just barely room for my shoulders. Turning to the right or left was out of the question! I had no choice but to walk straight ahead where that corn had been planted.
Sometimes it seems that the way Christ Jesus mapped out for his followers is just as exacting: following the straight and narrow way—watching constantly every thought, loving all equally, obeying each commandment down to the tiniest jot and tittle. It sometimes might seem that this way is so very demanding that it would be just plain no fun! But Jesus also promised that in following his way we would find great joy and find life, abundant life.
