God's immediate help in healing
A perception of the spiritual perfection of man in God's likeness can have quick and powerful results.
What should have been a happy and congenial luncheon with friends turned out to be a nightmare. I apparently was experiencing an attack of food poisoning and had to beat a hasty retreat from my friends. They were quite concerned for my well-being. Immediate relief was needed from the discomfort.
I had always dealt with physical troubles through prayer, by audibly or silently declaring spiritual facts of God and of man's relationship to Him. Basic to healing in Christian Science is the understanding we gain from the Bible that man is made in the image and likeness of God, perfect as the Father. My immediate task was wholeheartedly to realize that God is perfect Spirit and that I was therefore His wholly spiritual, perfect offspring. A perception of this truth of being, beyond what the material senses report, quiets fear and results in healing.
When we turn to God in prayer and seek Him with all our heart, we find that we receive the answer to our prayers. It was with this expectant attitude that I telephoned a family member who was a Christian Science practitioner. She agreed to pray for me at once. My mother's office, fortunately, was located in the area near the restaurant, and I was quickly driven there. Then I became more peaceful and receptive to the spiritual truths of God and man that the practitioner had shared. Within a short time I was able to go home without a vestige of the symptoms of food poisoning. How wonderful to have no more discomfort!
