I'd like to tell of a healing experience I had several years ago. Swallowing became painful, and then I developed a toothache. It seemed as if my entire nervous system was in disarray; I even started to feel pain in one knee, which made walking difficult for me. Then came a fever.
It was not easy to combat all of this prayerfully. I tried hard —as the Bible puts it—"to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord" (II Cor. 5:8). I made a great effort:
first, to love God with all my heart, with all my soul, with all my strength, and with all my mind (see Matt. 22:37);
