Don't link child abuse with Christian Science healing
The Boston Globe
From The Boston Globe, December 9, 1992
Child abuse can be a very emotional issue. Bella English's column "No excuses for child abuse" (Nov. 30) and a previous column on the same subject, "A criminal omission" (Oct. 21), play more to the emotional side of the issue, rather than dealing with the serious nature and causes of child abuse and neglect.
Of course we should have strong laws to deal with those who intentionally abuse children. But it is irresponsible to equate the deliberate abuse of children with the practice of Christian Science healing. Christian Science parents are loving parents who consciously choose their faith as a way of life based on proven Christian principles.
